Billing Questions

How do I make an appointment?
Some insurance plans require that your primary care physician provide them a referral for specialist care. Please check your insurance plan to determine your coverage so any necessary documentation can be in place before your appointments.
Appointments can be made by calling the clinic directly at 502.583.8383.

How do I reach my doctor in an emergency?
If it is a serious medical emergency, please call 911 immediately or go to the nearest hospital emergency department.  During working hours, please call the clinic and describe your problem or need.  After hours, your call will be forwarded to our answering service, which will contact the on-call physician.

What insurance does University Cardiothoracic Surgical Associates accept?
UCSA accepts most insurance and will bill both primary and secondary insurance plans. Some insurance plans have restrictions or a specific provider panel that patients must access. Please check with your insurance carrier to determine your eligibility.

When do I pay the co-payment?
Your co-payment is due when you register. If you are unsure of your co-pay responsibilities, please check your insurance card or call your insurance company.

Why does it take so long for my insurance to pay?
Insurance billing requires many steps and can take many weeks to complete. We are available for questions that you may have about our bill, but questions about how your insurance processed a specific claim should be directed to your insurance company.

What if I don’t have insurance?
Each hospital with which UCSA is partnered has a hospital representative who will discuss financial arrangements with you or assist you in applying for Medicaid or other government assistance programs.

Why do I receive multiple billing statements from separate doctors or health care facilities?
You may receive separate bills for services from physicians (surgeons and anesthesiologist), your primary care physician, and/or one or more of the hospitals with which UCSA is affiliated, because more than one of these parties has assisted in your care. UCSA provides a wide array of medical-related services, however we often refer lab work, testing, or other analyses to one of our partner facilities.
